April is Sexual Assault, Awareness and Prevention Month at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
Throughout the month, the base will host events to recognize the awareness campaign including a 5k Run on April 1.
According to Navy Capt. Frank Mays, JBAB commanding officer, ongoing awareness is critical as long as sexual assault continues to happen.
"The DoD is making great progress in raising awareness and helping victims feel comfortable enough to come forward, but prevention continues to be a big part of this," said Mays. "SAAPM events provide an opportunity for everyone to learn and reflect on the impact an assault can have on the victim and the workplace. Hopefully, that encourages more people to step up and step in."
